DAVID "CAT" COHEN is an experienced ASCAP and NARAS songwriter with songs cut by major pop, R&B, jazz and blues recording artists such as Cheryl Lynn, Syreeta, Freddie Hubbard, and Bo Diddley.

After years of writing songs for others he is in the process of completing his debut CD as a recording artist himself entitled SONGS OF SURVIVAL AND SWEET SURRENDER. Produced by Ed Tree for his own label Cat Cohen Unltd. this recording will feature ten of his best songs in a unique blend of Soul, Jazz R&B, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Gospel and Blues styles reminiscent of Van Morrison, Randy Newman and Billy Joel with a touch of Luther Vandross thrown in for good measure. As a pre-cursor he has released a CD single of two of his political songs BUSH'S FOLLY and BLUE STATE OF MIND available for free downloading on his home page.

Cat wrote the chapter on music theory for John Braheny's book The Craft and Business of Music. His columns have been featured in LASS/NAS Musepaper magazine and The Music Connection. His colorful passionate "hippie-rock" musical Lightflow played to rave reviews in the early '70s while his anti-drug children's musical commissioned by Opera Pacific The Not So Great Escape was performed extensively in schools throughout Southern California in the '90s.

2001 saw Cat's keyboard work featured on a cut (Hamster Love) from the Rhino Record's release, Dr. Demento 30th Anniversary Collection.

Currently, Cat's work can be heard in films such as The Rat Pack, the HBO movie about Frank Sinatra in a jazz composition co-authored with Jay Roewe. More recently, he co-wrote (with Sarra Gallagher) a song featured in the hit Universal Pictures movie Undercover Brother.

Cat set up and teaches a 3-semester program in Songcraft at UCLA Extension. He's also a songwriting and artist development instructor at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood.

Cat has coached keyboard players and consulted for songwriters in private sessions in the greater Los Angeles area for over 25 years.
