Cat taught piano specializing in keyboard accompaniment for singers and songwriters.

In 1976, the city of Los Angeles sponsored a Garden Theater Festival for local talent and Cat put together three of his best singer students to perform his songs. These three ladies all blonde, all beautiful, all had great voices and blended into a Andrews Sisters meets the Pointers Sisters sound. They shopped for a name and since much of their music was nostalgic, they based it on the old movie, The Cat and The Canary.

Hence Cat Cohen and the Canary Sisters was born. They performed all over LA for a few years including a couple of appearances at the LASS Songwriters Showcase hosted by Len Chandler and John Braheny. The name "Cat" has stuck ever since.
