Theory/Song Structure Workout - Intermediate Level |
 |
Theory
and ear training in intervals, scales, chords and chord progressions.
This one of a kind workshop is designed with the songwriter
in mind as each theory drill is related to the choices one
makes when in the process of writing a song. Many of the harmonic
concepts here are unique to pop music and cannot be found
in traditional music theory classes. After the ear training
workout participants are given the chance to present original
material for instructor and class feedback with emphasis on
song structure, holding audience interest throughout the song.
A simple knowledge of chords and the ability to play an instrument
or sing in a pop style and some songwriting experience is
beneficial for this course. |
 |
The
next music theory/song structure workout will start Tuesday
night, October 1st and end on Novermber 26th, 2002. This workshop
is arranged in a 5 week series meeting every other week throughout
the year on Tuesday nights in a private residence in Santa
Monica and cost $225 for all 5 classes or $55 to attend one
class at a time. |
 |
| Pro
Music Theory/Song Structure Workout - Advanced Level |
 |
Advanced
ear training and harmonic analysis of songs in a variety of
pop styles including the work of classic writers like the
Beatles, Motown, Jimmy Webb, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John,
Diane Warren as well as more contemporary and "out of
the box" writers. After the ear training workout participants
are given the chance to present original material for instructor
and class feedback with emphasis on song structure, production
and marketability. The intermediate music theory workout is
a prerequisite except for writers with equivalent background
and professional experience. |
 |
The
next pro music theory/song structure workout will start Monday
night, September 23rd and continue through December, 2002.
This workshop meets every other week on Monday night throughout
the year. Class is held in varying residences and studios
near the West Hollywood area. The cost is $60 for each class |

| Is
your song a hit... or a miss? |
 |
Cat regularly advises Los Angeles songwriters on the strengths
and weaknesses of their songs and their potential marketability.
He has helped hundreds of professional-oriented songwriters
before they went into a demo studio and spent their
hard earned money only to find out that the song wasn't
in its final form. He has assisted many writers to see the
potential of their songs and where that potential falls
short, helping to decide which songs to demo and which to
rewrite or shelve.
Many of Cat's clients value his ability to insert or delete
a line of verse, to rearrange a prechorus, and most importantly
tighten the hook in the chorus, making a song which had
missed the mark hit its intended commercial target. He has
a long list of satisfied clients
who are now performing, recording, and selling
songs that he has greatly strengthened.
At one time, Cat's insightful, professional feedback was
only available via in-person sessions in the Los Angeles
area. Now, no matter where you live, Cat's
Songwriting Consultation and Mentoring Services are
available to you through correspondence.
